Guitar, Bass, Piano
Kyle Rice is a multi-talented guitarist, bassist, and musician from Alabama. Growing up in a household always surrounded by music, he was immersed from a young age. His father is also a musician, which has always kept him submerged in jazz, R&B, gospel, and more. After his parents received job offers teaching abroad, his family moved to the Middle East when he was ten years old. He began to receive guitar lessons later that year and was stuck on music from then on. Beginning with classical and then switching to contemporary (electric), he began to take bass lessons by the age of fourteen.
Continuing learning and playing, Kyle went on to study music through high school and through undergrad in college. Attending Howard University, he graduated from the Chadwick A. Boseman College of Fine Arts with a Bachelor of Music in Jazz Studies. While there, he played guitar with the Howard University Jazz Ensemble under director Fred Irby III, continuing his refinement while gigging and playing both sophomore and senior recitals. He has played both bass and guitar during two sets at DC JazzFest. First with the LeNay Collective on bass, and then a duo guitar later with Jackson Dunkin. Two sets of spontaneous moments of creation in his career.
One of his most influential music teachers, Mr. Mario Rollins (rest his soul), had a profound impact on him and served as the catalyst for his continued interest in the instrument. Due to people like him who changed his life, Kyle hopes to be that same catalyst for children like himself. He hopes to be able to give back to the world as the world has given to him. Kyle is a personable teacher who is willing to get to know each student and determine what best suits them. That's the best way to be productive and beneficial with both lesson times and their abilities.
