Brittany Hunter is dedicated and passionate about music. At the University of Maryland, where she perssued a Bachelor of Music in Voice Performance. Before transferring to the University of Maryland, Brittany studied at the Lawrence University Conservatory of Music for two years, where she developed a strong foundation in vocal performance. During her time at Lawrence, she had the honor of singing her first principal role as Nora in Ralph Vaughan Williams’ one-act opera Riders to the Sea, which was featured as part of Lawrence’s 2021 mainstage opera season.
Brittany studied under the esteemed Professor Kevin Short, further refining her technique and artistry. In 2023, she had the opportunity to serve as a music intern at St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church, an experience that allowed her to deepen her skills in sacred music. As part of this role, she traveled with the St. Andrew’s Parish Choir to Salisbury, England, where she performed in the historic Salisbury Cathedral—a highlight of her musical journey so far.
Brittany is also passionate about teaching and loves instructing voice and piano students. She has gained valuable experience through freelance teaching and working with institutions. In addition to her teaching and academic pursuits, Brittany is incredibly proud of her involvement in Never in Our Image, an experimental three-part opera composed by DC native Stephanie Mercedes. This project focused on the creation of new soundscapes and allowed Brittany to collaborate creatively with renowned artists such as DC soprano Fairouz Foty and Baltimore baritone Jim Williams.
As she continues her musical journey, Brittany remains committed to expanding her artistic horizons, engaging in new and exciting collaborations, and sharing her passion for music with others. She looks forward to the many opportunities ahead to perform, teach, and contribute to the ever-evolving world of vocal music.
