Piano

Lisa Tuvalo is a lifelong musician and educator who has been playing and teaching piano for many years. At age 8, she received a toy piano for Christmas and immediately fell in love. Six months later, Lisa was still constantly playing tunes, so her parents bought her a piano and enrolled her in lessons. She has been playing ever since!

Lisa was fortunate to meet a wonderful teacher, Mr. Englemann, who guided her through her first year of piano lessons. She then studied for seven years under Miss Esther Howe, a member of the National Guild of Piano Teachers.  She competed each year at Peabody Conservatory of Music in solo, trio and quartet performances.  Additionally, every May she took the Guild's annual exam, where she was expected to play scales, chords, and at least seven pieces by heart for a panel of judges. She later graduated with a diploma in music from the National Guild of Piano Teachers.

Lisa enjoys teaching piano to students of all ages and skill levels, and is happy to teach any genre or style of music in accordance with the student's goals and interests. Her lessons emphasize the value of commitment, while also ensuring that students are having fun and enjoying learning how to play the piano.

Lisa has also continued to learn and grow in her own musical career.  In 2011, she began taking clarinet lessons, and later played clarinet with the Takoma Park Community Band.
